Marcia Howard, Coyote Sky Designs

by local artist, Marcia Howard. They are 'The Gates of Mt.

5'.
Mary Lyon did not want the College to be named after her or any person. She wanted it to be named after something more enduring. She chose the mountain. The Northeast has been Marcia Howard's home for most of her life with the exception of a few years during her early adolescence when she lived in Arizona. Since 1976 she has lived, worked, and raised a family in Amherst, MA. Art
has always been an integral part of Marcia's life. Her mother was a
portrait and landscape artist in New York City and Marcia grew up in an
environment emphasizing the arts. Her work consists of paper collage
designs
and landscapes, often made in part from color-aid paper to provide a
softer, Using
paper to capture the essence of the subject matter is both
intriguing and challenging. Through simplified forms and rich colors and
textures, she tries to convey the peaceful, powerful, or lyrical quality
of
the subject. This old art form is now starting a new resurgence in
popularity, much to the delight of Marcia and others who have been drawn
